Welcome to Calgary Korean School’s Website.

Our school opened in 1979 with the goal of representing one of the 6500 languages in the world. With the help of the Korean Association, the local community, the support of parents and the help from numerous volunteers, we were able to proudly teach Korean language and culture. I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your valuable work.

Our board of directors and staff will work hard to create a community that supports both teachers and students in their journey of learning to love Hangul.

Hello,
Calgary Korean School is dedicated to preserving the Korean language and culture and providing students with opportunities to experience Korean traditions while developing a strong sense of identity and pride. We also guide students to communicate and collaborate effectively within their community.

Korean is more than a means of communication; it is a bridge connecting our history, spirit, and culture. Learning Korean helps students understand their roots and discover their identity, building a strong foundation for the future. Together with parents, teachers, and the community, we will continue to support students on their joyful journey of learning.

1979년
• 1월: 설립발기인회 개최 (발기인: 제안자 이원재 외 5명)
• 3월 31일: 본교 설립
• 5월: 알버타 주정부 비영리 자선단체 등록 및 인가
• 8월: 헝가리언 청주교회에서 모국어 여름학교 개설
• 8월: Langevin Elementary School 교육장소 사용 승인
• 9월: 첫 모국어 및 문화 교육 시행
• 10월: 창립 기념식 개최
1980년 – 1990년대
• 1980년 2월: 연방정부 자선단체 등록 및 인가
• 1982년 5월: 한국 정부 모국어 교육 보조금 지원 시작
• 1984년 10월: 알버타 주정부 모국어 교육 보조금 신청
• 1985년 6월: SAHLA 표창 수상
• 1985년 11월: 민족언어개발 공로상 수상 (이원재 교장)
• 1990년 2월: 민족언어 발전 공로상 수상 (김환태 이사장)
• 1991년 3월: 제1회 우리말 잘하기 및 읽기대회 개최
• 1997년 1월: SAHLA 가입
• 1999년 3월: 창립 20주년 기념행사 및 축하공연
2000년대
• 2000년 9월: 기금 모금 카지노 봉사 주정부 승인
• 2003년 11월: 캘거리-대전 양 교육청 교육교류 협약 주선
• 2004년 3월: 창립 25주년 기념행사
• 2006년 4월: 알버타 교육부 및 캘거리 교육청 한국어 교육 시행 승인
• 2007년 2월: 성인 한국어 기초반 개설
• 2007년 3월: 교육개척상 수상 (이원재 이사장)
• 2007년 5월: Balmoral 교실 사용 및 한국문화교실 개설 합의
• 2009년 11월: 국민훈장 동백장 수상 (이원재 이사장)
2010년대
• 2010년 9월: ‘한글교육 30년 근속상’ 수상 (이경자 교장)
• 2014년 6월: 창립 35주년 기념행사
• 2014년 8월: 이원재 설립자 겸 이사장님 고문이사로 추대
• 2014년 9월: 한상윤 이사장 선임
• 2014년: 첫 봉사생 모집 및 교사 도우미 프로그램 운영
• 2015년 1월: 재외동포재단 도서지원 사업 선정

• 2022년 3월: Calgary Winter Festival Chinook Blast 한국문화 체험 행사 참여
